pediatrician and actual sleep.

ok, so we had our first peds appt yesterday. charis is back to her birth weight already! i guess she's a healthy eater! she also measured quite a bit shorter at 20 1/8 inches...definitely due to the lack of cone on her head now vs. just after she was born :)

the doctor said everything looks great and she has no jaundice at this point. we are going back next week to have her umbilical stump checked since it is just about ready to fall off.

we're slowly figuring each other out, this baby and us parents. we actually had a pretty great night last night...she slept 1 hour, then 2 hours, then 4 hours straight...all with feedings in between. that was pretty amazing. i think part of it for us, too, has been getting used to her little grunts and groans throughout the night. we're starting to learn her noises, so the superficial stuff doesn't wake us up like it used to.

i continue to feel a bit stronger each day, but it's clear that the whole blood loss thing really took it out of me. i have a follow up appt with my OB on thursday so they can check my progress.

other than that, we sleep when we can and enjoy her quiet awake times when we can. she tends to be up most of the morning in just a quiet alert state, and it's just fun to hold her and talk to her during those times. it seems like she is starting to learn our voices a bit more and respond with interest when we talk to her.

we're putting her in the moby wrap a bit each day to get her used to it...so far she seems to like it just fine. see for yourself:

so...other things of note. i can bend over! yay!!! what i mean by that, is i am no longer confined to the ridiculous squat/bend thing i had to do while pregnant. i feel much more like a normal person now that i can pick something up off the floor without bobbing up and down until i happen to snag it with my first two fingers. also, i can lay on my stomach. this is an amazing feeling. i forgot how wonderful it was.

derek's parents and youngest sister are coming to visit tomorrow to see charis for the first time...derek's mom has been dying to see her, so i'm glad it worked out for them to come this weekend.

for those of you who would like to stop in and see us (and have been so patiently waiting), i think i'm feeling well enough now for short visits. if you'd like to plan to stop by sometime, shoot us an email or give us a call at home and we'll figure out a good time for a visit.

I have a lot to catch up on with you and a lot to catch you up on with us! I'd like to stop by sometime next week, if at all possible, maybe during a lunch break.

Since I don't want to wake you and your family, I'll email and/or text you if that's alright.
